Into Film Festival

The Into Film Festival is a free, annual, nationwide celebration of film & education for 5-19 year olds for schools, colleges and home educators. Follow the links below for further details and bookings:

Cinema Tour (60 Minutes Long, £50 plus VAT, capacity 20)

Our cinema tour is a great opportunity to delve into the rich history of our grade II listed building, the only remaining gas-lit cinema the country. Led by our young audience officer, explore our restored heritage features and gain insight into the local history of early film, the beginnings of the cinema over 100 years ago and discover how the building has continued to develop following historical, technological and social changes.

Projection Room Tour (30 Minutes Long, £50 plus VAT capacity 10) 

Our projection room tour provides a behind the scenes look at the history and tradition of film, from an up-close look at our two 1960s Cinemeccanica projectors and our continued use of 35mm film, right up to modern day projection technology and techniques, delivered by our specialist Projection team.

Educational Workshops (Key Stage 1 & 2)

Educational workshops (2 hours long, £150 plus VAT, capacity 30)

We offer a selection of creative and heritage-based workshops for schools, educators and community groups to support and enhance learning across a range of subjects including Music, Science and History utilising our historic venue alongside film screenings and interactive activities. 

Our educational workshops and visits are based at the Hyde Park Picture House but can be potentially adapted for delivery in your school, college, or community spaces. Please contact us to discuss this further.

Foley Workshop - Key Stage 1 (Main Focus Music)

Explore how sound is used in cinema, from early silent film to the introduction and importance of sound and music to cinema. The workshop will include experimenting with our bodies, using props and making your own instrument to create sounds to accompany film.

Shadow Puppets Workshop - Key Stage 2 (Main Focus Science)

Learn about light and shadow further by exploring and experiencing how film projection works. The workshop includes a screening of an early Lotte Reiniger animation from the 1920s using paper cut-outs, a tour of our projection room, an opportunity to experiment with our very own mini–Hyde Park Picture House Shadow Theatre and the chance to make your own shadow puppets to then project onto our big screen!

Zoetrope Workshop - Key Stage 2 (Main Focus History)

Find out more about the history of film and create your own moving images. The workshop includes watching and learning about early examples of film, a tour of our projection room and experimenting with thaumatropes and zoetropes to create your own films on the big screen.

Industry and Careers Opportunities (Key Stage 4 and Beyond)

Cinema Takeover Project - Key Stage 4 - 5 (£150 in addition to Private Hire Fee plus VAT, capacity up to 30)

An opportunity for young participants to organise and facilitate their very own film screening at the Hyde Park Picture House. This project is a great way for young people to develop and enhance skills relating to team building, public speaking and time management as well as gain practical and valuable insight and experience of event planning and the wider creative sector. The project includes 3 sessions; an introductory talk and tour at the cinema, an interactive planning session and then a screening at the cinema open to your school, college or community group.

Programming Industry Talk - Key Stage 5 and Beyond (1 hour long, £150 plus VAT)

Gain behind the scenes insight into how film programming works at the Hyde Park Picture House, with an in depth talk from one of our film programmers discussing our programming strategy and the current challenges within the film exhibition sector for independent film alongside our audience development, sustainability and charitable aims. 

Enhanced Projection Workshop - Key Stage 5 and Beyond (2 hours long, £250 plus VAT, capacity 6)

A very special opportunity for film fanatics and enthusiasts to gain further insight into the history of early film and cinema, the role of the film projectionist today and then a practical, hands-on demonstration of our projection equipment and how to show a film using our very own two 35mm 1960s Cinemeccanica projectors.

 We are teaming up with our friends at Studio 12 and the INDIs Film Fest to bring you an a new and exciting quarterly networking opportunity to help support and connect with aspiring filmmakers in our local region. Visit here to find out more and book!

Private Educational Bookings

Both of our screens are available to book for your own private film screening, to show an existing film or your very own films. Our screens and other cinema spaces can also be used for classes, talks and lectures or adapted for workshops and activities. 

Our reduced educational rates are available to schools, educational institutions or organisations working with young people. 

Hire Details: 

  • Minimum notice: 30 days.
  • Large or small class size options.
  • Full audio/visual capabilities.
  • AV presentations from the front of the auditorium, including slideshows and online conferencing.
  • Catering options available.

  • £125 p/h plus VAT
  • 232 Capacity, including up to 6 dedicated wheelchair spaces
