Why watch?
“Guillermo del Toro clearly pored over every previous cinematic iteration, celebrating this version’s script, that version’s lead, this other version’s tragic tone. It’s in that process of study and adoration that you can see his version has come about, its own Frankenstein’s monster which pieces together the best of each retelling with del Toro’s grand vision and true appreciation of what makes a film cinematic, the thread stitching together each part to craft something new.”

Hyde Park Pick: Frankenstein
Del Toro's adaptation movingly captures the sense of isolation and yearning which permeate the story, whilst also creating a fugue of dread and elemental horror. The outcome is a contemporary gothic masterpiece that immediately feels timeless.
Oscar Isaac's egotistical and obsessive Victor Frankenstein is balanced perfectly by an outstanding performance by Mia Goth as Elizabeth and Jacob Elordi, who delivers a heart-stealing performance as the Creature.
Details
“The Saltburn star is magnetically charismatic... Jacob Elordi’s blasphemous beauty makes you feel sympathy for the devil”
The Telegraph
“Here, given the opportunity to bring his childhood favourite to life, Del Toro throws everything he can at the screen. Frankenstein is loud, bombastic, sublime and silly. This is a universe in which towers totter above precipices, cellars drip hollowly and women wear impossible dresses in the snow. ”
Time Out
“Frankenstein is the movie Guillermo del Toro was born to make. The filmmaker, aided by an extraordinary turn from Jacob Elordi, finally brings his vision of modern Prometheus and his misunderstood creation to the screen”
