Info & FAQs

Pay What You Can tickets

Many of our Hyde & Seek screenings are Pay What You Can (excluding new releases, toddler screenings, one-off special events and holiday workshops) . This means you pay as much or little as you can afford, including the option to pay nothing at all. We’ve done this to make this important gateway for younger audiences into the world of cinema as accessible as possible.

To help you decide what price is right for you, below are what we'd recommend based on your circumstances.

£0 I struggle to meet my basic needs.
£2.50 I just about cover my basic needs.
£5.00 I can cover my basic needs.
£7.50 I comfortably meet my basic needs.
£9.50 I have expendable income and financial security.

Our Hyde and Seek matinee screenings during school holidays of new releases are all £6 per ticket.

Autism-friendly screenings

We have regular Autism-friendly screenings on Sunday mornings at 11:00. These relaxed screenings are intended to provide a safe environment for people on the Autism spectrum and all neurodiverse audience members who find standard screenings overstimulating.

Adjustments you will find at our Autism-friendly screenings:

  • There is a relaxed attitude to audience noise.
  • Cinema light levels are raised slightly.
  • Film volume is lowered slightly.
  • People can move around the auditorium and in and out as needed.
  • No trailers or advertisements.
  • Screen capacity is reduced.
  • Hand dryers are turned off in bathrooms.

You can find more information about access at the Picture House, including familiarising yourself with the building before visiting, here.

Since there is a limited capacity at these screenings, pre-booking is advised as they usually sell out. We also ask customers to let us know if they can no longer attend, if possible, so we know if there is space for other people to attend.

Please note, we used to refer to our ‘Autism-friendly’ screenings as ‘Relaxed’ screenings – but have since updated the wording to make it clearer that they are specifically designed with neurodiverse audiences in mind.

How old do I have to be to attend a Hyde & Seek screening?

Our regular Hyde & Seek screenings are aimed at audiences from 3 years and over but are open to all ages to enjoy. Guests under the age of 8 MUST be accompanied by an adult aged 18 and over at all times.

We play U and PG certificate films which means our screenings will vary in suitability for different ages.

We recommend parents and carers visit the BBFC website, for advice on a film's certificate to help them determine if it will be suitable for their child.

What are toddler screenings?

Our toddler screenings are every Friday at 11am aimed at one to four-year-old audiences.

Our tickets are £3 each to make sure these films are very accessible to our youngest audiences and help to introduce children to film and cinema.

No adult unaccompanied by a child will be admitted to ensure the screening remains safe and focused on our teeniest film fans, but these screenings are also open to additional siblings, family and friends. Tickets are required for both children and adults. However, babies under 1 are not required to purchase a ticket.

All films shown are a certificate U and we only show shorter titles, a maximum of 80 minutes long without any trailers or adverts.

These screenings also have a reduced capacity to give the shortest attention spans room to fidget and wiggle around freely.

Due to the nature of these films, audience noise and movement is to be expected.

Free crafts and family-friendly activities at HPPH

Before our Saturday morning Hyde & Seek screenings, we provide drop-in, self led interactive activities at 10.30am before the screening begins at 11.00am, helping audiences of all ages to engage with the themes found within the movie. Please see the individual film descriptions for details of any activities taking place.

We strive to make the Hyde Park Picture House feel friendly and welcoming to all young audiences, so even on days when we do not have dedicated craft activities, craft materials will be available for children to use in our Café Bar, Community Room and The Nook by Screen Two.

Are Hyde & Seek screenings accessible?

On our Access page you can find out about access at the Picture House, ranging from physical access to accessible screenings.

Every Sunday our Hyde & Seek 11am screening is an Autism-friendly Screening, intended to provide a safe environment for people on the autism spectrum and all neurodiverse audience members who find regular screenings overstimulating.

Specifically for Hyde & Seek screenings, where possible, all screenings are audio described. However, not all films have this as an option so please check individual film listings for details. Films that have audio description available will have an 'AD' symbol next to the film time. If you would like to book an audio description headset, these can be booked at the same time as booking your tickets if available.

How are films chosen?

Our Hyde & Seek programme is run by our Young Audiences Officer Sylvia, with input from the wider programming team and the Independent Cinema Office.

We try to select a range of films – both newer releases and classic favourites – and most importantly, films younger audiences want to see.
