Responding to this year's Heritage Open Days theme of Everyday Histories, Drifters captures the story of Britain's North Sea herring fisheries, filmed at Lerwick, in the Shetlands, Lowestoft and Yarmouth and in the North Sea.

Generally revered as a pivotal title in early British cinema, Drifters expertly captures the reality of a daily life for those working in fishing in the early 20th Century. Whilst thoughtfully reflecting the grueling nature of the work, the film is also interspersed with exceptionally beautiful shots of fish dancing across the nets.
