Death Race
15
In a dystopian future, ex-con Jensen Ames is coerced into a deadly competition—the ultimate prison car race. As brutal rivals clash on the asphalt, survival turns into a high-octane spectacle of betrayal and bloodshed, where only the ruthless prevail.
With a colourful introduction from Lee Bentham of What the Film Club, this screening is a nod to the boundary pushing multi-genre form of car chases within action and science fiction.
This Hyde Park Film School event is part of the wider Burning Rubber, Crossing Borders season supported by the University of Leeds and funded by BFI Art of Action.

“The movie is legitimately greasy, authentically nasty, with a good old-fashioned sense of laying waste to everything in sight -- including the shallow philosophizing and computer-generated fakery that have overrun the summer blockbuster.”
The New York Times
“Nothing in director Paul W.S. Anderson's schlock drawer--prepares you for the peppy, good-time nastiness that is Death Race.”
Chicago Tribune
