Àma Gloria
12A
Marie Amachoukeli’s outstanding feature was the opening film of Cannes Critics’ Week 2023 and has been an audience favourite at film festivals across Europe including London and Dublin.
Produced by Céline Sciamma’s regular producer Bénédicte Couvreur (Petite Maman, Portrait of a Lady on Fire, Girlhood), it's possible to see similarities between Ama Gloria and Sciamma's work. In particular the remarkable performances given by all of the young performers, capturing the particular challenges children face in navigating a world over which they have so little power.
The screening on Friday 14 June will be followed by a post film discussion led by Mohammed Elnaiem (The Decolonial Centre) who will be exploring the question posed by the decolonial feminist Francoise Verges, "who cleans the world?". This will be a vibrant discussion on feminised care work, migration, and the global colonial economy.
