Why watch?
“I’m so grateful that Kim Hopkins captured this warm, wistful tale of an endangered local filmmaking group. It’s the kind of story we rarely get to see. It offers a glimpse into the lives of normal northern people and their friendships, passions and frustrations as they try to save their beloved Bradford Movie Makers. I’m so glad this documentary exists and I hope the Bradford Movie Makers continue long into the future.”

Tuesday Wonders: Reel Life
Members of a quintessentially British working-class amateur filmmaking club, ‘Bradford Movie Makers’ grow old together amid flickering memories and challenging final years. Clinging to their dreams, and to each other, fuelled by endless cups of tea, this gently comedic, profoundly moving documentary of shared artistic folly speaks to the escapist dreamer in us all and to the enduring power of face-to-face time together, in an increasingly lonely, digital age.
At the Tuesday screening, we will be joined by some of the Bradford Movie Makers themselves for an intro and Q&A, and we’ll screen some of their own short films alongside the feature. Please note that the director is no longer able to attend this screening.
