Memory Bank: Leeds
Developed in partnership with the Yorkshire Film & TV Archive
Memory Bank uses carefully curated archive film footage from across the decades to connect the past with the present and help rediscover memories. We have partnered with the Yorkshire Film Archive to develop a new edition: Memory Bank: Leeds, with support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF).
Memory Bank: Leeds contains unique compilations of archive film footage of the city of Leeds, its communities and major cultural events, sourced from the Yorkshire Film Archive's broad library. The pack is made up of a DVD containing the archive film collections and a detailed handbook giving you a wealth of background information about life in Leeds. It also contains advice on how to run a session, prompt points to spark conversations as well as place to log memories and ideas for additional enrichment activities.
The films included in this pack are:
- No Place Like Home:
- Carnival Time: Footage from the 1978 and 1979 Leeds West Indian Carnival, including all three essential elements – costumes, music, and masquerade procession.
- Shoppers Paradise:
- Tailored For You:
- Children's Day:
- Fit For A Queen:
- Gardeners World:
- Sporting Life:
We hope that films and sessions will not only bring back memories for those who remember Leeds during those decades but will help future generations to see what life was like at the that time for their parents, grandparents and even great-grandparents.
The resource is completely free, and you can request a copy here or by emailing info@hpph.co.uk. Unfortunately, we can’t provide DVD players, but you can borrow one from The Library of Things in Headingley if you don’t have one.
Want to host your own session but don’t have the space? Our community space is free to book and great for smaller groups.
