Hyde Park Pick: We Live In Time
This week's film not to miss is the new moving romance starring Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield.

I was watching TV in bed the other week (bad habit I know…) and put Notting Hill on as a joke to tease my partner. Two hours later he was sleeping like a baby and I was waiting on baited breath whilst a girl stands in front of a boy asking her to love him.
What I’m saying is I love romantic comedies. It’s something I forget about myself sometimes but if I’m honest, When Harry Met Sally and Sleepless in Seattle are two of the films I’ve seen most in my life and as much as I know that I shouldn’t want to be anyone other than me, I still try my very best when I wake up every single morning to be a hybrid of Katharine Hepburn and Meg Ryan.
So, this brings us round to We Live in Time.
Featuring the internet's boyfriend, Andrew Garfield, and the magnificent Florence Pugh. We Live in Time is the joyful, tearful, sometimes hilarious, romantic comedy we need to start the year with. Whilst the anniversary of January 6th hits and we edge toward Trump’s second inauguration, this is the type of emotional escapist rollercoaster I am going to need to hide in at key points over the next month to keep myself sane.
Coming to us from Brooklyn director John Crowley, We Live in Time charts a surprise meeting between Alma and Tobias which turns into a romantic escapade spanning two decades. Crowley and his two leads know what they are doing here, they want you to fall in love with Alma and Tobias and go through the ups and downs that come with the best love stories.
One of the best elements to We Live in Time is how it manages to weave humour into a story that admittedly wants to make you cry. The tears flow all the better perhaps because some of the laughs are so on point and one scene in particular made me laugh so much my whole body shook for a few minutes. I have to give a shoutout here to comedian Kerry Godliman for this in what really might be my favourite cameo of the year.
So, in summary, We Live in Time is a cosy blanket of a film, perfect for easing into the new year when the temptation may be to run the other way.
We Live in Time is showing daily at HPPH from Fri 03 Jan. You can book tickets here.
