Throw Your Heart Into The Sea

Join us for a special screening of Throw Your Heart Into the Sea, followed by a panel discussion exploring different perspectives on living with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
The event will open with an introduction from director Christian Kogler, who will share insights into the making of the film and reflect on how the creative process influenced his own experience with OCD.
In four chapters, and through conversations with several people, the documentary sheds light on the psyche and different strategies used to achieve security, or at least a perceived sense of it. The film provides insights into personal and collective mechanisms aimed at minimising risk, spiritual interpretations, and possible ways forward. Using calm, reflective imagery, the film opens up a space for deeper meditation on the interaction between internal worlds and external influences, sharpening our awareness of these issues.
Following the screening, audiences are invited to stay for a panel discussion and Q&A featuring Christian Kogler, a parent of a child living with OCD, and a specialist in the condition. The discussion will be chaired by Adele Darlington, Principal of Lighthouse Futures Trust, and will include questions developed by interns from the college.
Christian Kogler was born in Austria in 1962. Between the ages of 14 and 28, OCD dominated his life. A prolonged stay on the Hebridean island of Iona, off the west coast of Scotland, began a healing process that led him towards an independent life. He graduated from two universities and now works in Linz, Austria, as a filmmaker and university lecturer. He runs a student TV and radio station and has also published three children's crime stories (in German). In 2021, he released his first feature-length documentary film, Birgitta’s Friends. Throw Your Heart Into the Sea is his second feature-length documentary film.
