“‘It says here that you're... Cauc... asian? Well, they got that wrong. You're obviously white.’ Ten years later and that line is still cracking me up. That should give you a good flavour of the kind of wonderfully silly, playful humour the film has. If you love Flight of the Conchords, another stellar New Zealand comedy, chances are you’ll love this too. Also, who needs to book an all-inclusive trip when you can explore this verdant idyll from the comfort of HPPH? Waititi balances humour and sincerity perfectly, and his music choices are exceptional. It doesn’t get much better than Nina Simone’s ‘Sinnerman’ for a fast walk chase scene.”

Ricky (Julian Dennison) is a defiant young city kid who finds himself on the run in the wild New Zealand bush with his cantankerous foster uncle (the late, ever so great, Sam Neill). A national manhunt ensues, and the two are forced to put aside their differences and work together to survive.
