Young, Rebel and Black Workshop
15
Following our screening of Menelik Shabazz’s short films as part of our Young, Rebel and Black programme, filmmaker and colleague of Menelik, Winstan Whitter, will be hosting an interactive workshop at HPPH, where participants will learn more about the artistic style that defined Menelik’s films and the power of archive media in the telling of contemporary narratives.
This workshop, aimed at aspiring filmmakers and archivists, will dissect Shabazz’s use of archival footage across short films Blood Ah Go Run, Step Forward Youth, and Breaking Point. We'll explore how his methods create powerful, authentic narratives and preserve crucial moments of Black British history, sharing inspiration and practical insights to apply to your own projects.
Winstan Whitter, is an award-winning director, cinematographer, editor and workshop facilitator, bringing with him over 20 years of professional experience in broadcast TV, cinema and online productions.
