Ana and her best friend Luís were born and raised in São Miguel, the largest island in the Azores, with a tight-knit religious community steeped in tradition. When Ana’s old friend Cloé returns and Luis further expresses his gender fluidity, their once intimate community begins to feel stifling instead.

With a magical realist tone and experimental direction, documentarian Cláudia Varejão’s fiction feature debut is an enchanting ode to queer community and a film that will resonate with anybody who has felt like an outsider. Winner of the GdA director's award at the Venice Film Festival and the Berwick New Cinema Award.

After the film, programmers and organisers from Leeds Queer Film Festival will be talking about the importance of queer programming and their upcoming festival edition taking place in March. LQFF create spaces to showcase queer cinema with a focus on independent and DIY films. They screen films that elevate and prioritise the voices and work of those most marginalised within our LGBTQ+ communities.
