The Fly
18
When scientist Seth Brundle completes his teleportation device, he decides to test its abilities on himself. Unbeknownst to him, a housefly slips in during the process, leading to a merger of man and insect. Seth's girlfriend notices changes in her boyfriend's behaviour and, umm, eating habits... and becomes increasingly horrified as the person she loves deteriorates into something altogether monstrous.
David Cronenberg is at his grotesque best in this remake of the 1958 original. Maybe don't have your dinner before watching this one.
Details
“Science fiction has rarely been this emotionally powerful or, ironically for a film with a mutant insect at its centre, so deeply human.”
Empire
“In its galvanizing portrait of a body ravaged and sexual stasis infected by bugs, The Fly might be Cronenberg’s most direct horror film ever.”
Slant
“The Fly is that rare species of movie - a remake that far surpasses the original and, quite frankly, all expectations.”
