Stuntwomen: The Untold Hollywood Story
15 TBC

Tue 22 Oct · 18:00
A celebration and history of stunt women from 1914 to present day, followed by a live Q&A with special guests.
Documentary • Inspiring • Feminist
Part of Tuesday Wonders
Part of Burning Rubber, Crossing Borders

An action-documentary about the evolution of stunt women, their struggles on screen to perform at the highest level, and their fight off-screen to be treated fairly and equally. The movie takes us behind-the-scenes and introduces us to the female stunt performers who drive the action and thrills of Hollywood’s biggest blockbuster movies from the silent age of cinema to present day.

Following the film the University of Leeds’ Student Committee for Gender Equity in the Global Cultural Industries will chair a discussion with Georgia Munroe (professional Parkour and Art Du Déplacement athlete, coach, and stunt performer) and Louisanne Wong (non-binary movement artist, choreographer and coach).

This event is part of the wider HPPH season ‘Burning Rubber, Crossing Borders’ supported by Art of Action, a UK-wide BFI film season funded by National Lottery, BFI Film Audience Network and the University of Leeds.

Their artistic practice is mentored by Esprit Concrete and Crying Out Loud. Louiseanne has worked in various multidisciplinary shows indoors and outdoors internationally, including Free Your Mind (launch of Manchester’s Factory International now on BBC iPlayer), Marinella Senatore (feminist inclusive exhibitions at the Palais de Tokyo, Paris), Blame Game (Kundle Cru x Crying Out Loud) to name a few. Georgia Munroe is a professional Parkour and Art Du Déplacement athlete, coach, and stunt performer. Her passion for movement, ignited in her early teens, has led her on a global journey. From testing obstacle courses on Ninja Warrior Germany and Poland to coaching women and non-binary events like Emakumeak Mugimenduan in Spain (hosted by Lotzen ADD), Georgia's experiences are as diverse as they are dynamic. With over 11 years of expertise, she is now expanding her skill set into the stunt industry for television and film, with performances in major productions such as Wonder Woman 1984, Gladiators 2, and The Marvels. With the mentorship of her team, Esprit Concrete, Georgia is committed to discovering her true self by exploring her physical and mental potential, while striving for a more balanced approach to self-care and personal expectations.

Part of Burning Rubber, Crossing Borders

Car races and chases have been a key feature of action cinema since the silent era. From The Crowd Roars (1932) to Bullitt (1968), to the present day with franchises like Fast & Furious, audiences have long been drawn to scenes of vehicular mayhem.
