Striking With Pride: United at the Coalface + short
18 TBC
From 1984-1985, an unlikely alliance forged between the gay men and lesbians of London, and the striking miners of South Wales. This is an unexpected and uplifting love story: not between two people, but between two worlds-apart communities who found common cause and compassion for each other in the face of immense challenges, and changed the course of history for queer people in the UK.
Striking with Pride: United at the Coalface documents this remarkable tale, via iconic drag queen Tayce telling the story to a group of kids during a drag story hour. For a full afternoon of LGBT+ cinema, we will also be screening Because of You: A History of Kilawin Kolektibo (35min, US, 2024), which explores a pioneering collective of Filipnxs who came together in New York City in the mid-nineties.
To celebrate Leeds Queer Film Festival's 20th anniversary, they'll be gathering people's LQFF memories as oral histories. Please come a little early if you've got a memory to share!
