Small Things Like These is the film adaptation of Claire Keegan’s Booker Prize nominated and Orwell Prize winning novel of the same name.
Drama • Political • Gripping
Part of Bring Your Own Baby
It is 1985 in the run-up to Christmas in County Wexford, Ireland. Bill Furlong (Cillian Murphy) toils as a coal merchant working to support himself, his wife and his five daughters. Early one morning while out delivering coal at the local convent, he makes a discovery that forces him to confront his past and the complicit silence of a town controlled by the Catholic Church.
Small Things Like These sensitively captures the oppression of a small Irish town in thrall to a convent, where children are educated and young women work in brutal conditions.
The subtle power of the story will chime with audiences who loved 2022's critically acclaimed The Quiet Girl, which was also adapted from a source novel by Keegan.
