Northern Exposure is a touring film programme showcasing the best short films from the North of England.
Short films • British • Gripping

This programme has been selected by a group of young, Northern film curators who have scoured the region to discover the stories that matter to them and the local filmmakers to get excited about.

Expect a bold mix of fact and fiction, animation and live action - and anything else in-between. This screening will include an introduction by the Film Hub North team and Young Programmers where you can find out about our upcoming training, funding and programming opportunities available. 

Northern Exposure is delivered by Film Hub North as part of BFI Film Academy. BFI Film Academy offers opportunities for ambitious 16-25 year olds, anywhere in the UK, to get to know more about film and how to forge a career in the screen industries. This event is supported by BFI Film Academy, awarding National Lottery funding.

There will a be a filmmaker Q&A after this screening with directors Alfie Barker (Half Way) and Oran O’Sullivan (Cesspit of Freedom).

The police’s consistent harassment of a popular gay bar heralds the UK’s first national Gay Pride March, taking place in the textiles town of Huddersfield, 1981.

To The Moon Dir. Adil Ladha / 2024 / Drama (4:41)

Sunday 20th July 1969. The film follows seven year old Nish as he watches the Apollo 11 mission take place. As he gears up to see Neil Armstrong and co walk the lunar surface, a conflict at home threatens to bring him and his family back down to earth.

The Dawdler is about the moments before a town is destroyed by an air raid. Ordinary life occuring - unaware it will be decimated, any second now.

A short documentary that explores Hyde Park Leeds Football Club, and the power and importance of community groups and sports in the North.
