Anora, a young sex worker from Brooklyn, gets her chance at a Cinderella story when she meets and impulsively marries the son of a Russian oligarch. Once the news reaches Russia, her fairytale is threatened as the parents set out for New York to get the marriage annulled.
The new comedy drama from one the most socially aware and humane surveyors of the 'American Dream', director Sean Baker (Tangerine (2015), The Florida Project (2017) and Red Rocket (2021)), is a typically uncompromising and visceral experience, which is set to be one of the best films of 2024.
Details
“Endlessly entertaining and frequently hysterical, 'Anora' is one of the year’s best films and a formidable Oscar contender.”
New York Post
“By turns swoony, funny, panicky and sad, this is the director’s most vivid creation yet.”
Sight & Sound
“Splenetically hilarious for more than two hours before reality catches up with it in the film’s unforgettable final scene, “Anora” has next to nothing to do with romance, and almost everything to do with the kind of working-class heartache that a modern Hollywood studio would never even try to get right.”
