When his noble master suddenly dies prior to an important jousting match, peasant-born William Thatcher (Heath Ledger) does what any of us would do. Straps on his armour, steps into the stirrups and poses as an aristocratic knight.

Will desperately wants to win the prize money and put food in the bellies of his band of medieval misfits (Mark Addy, Paul Bettany, Alan Tudyk). He then develops a taste for glory and more importantly catches the eye of Jocelynn (Shannyn Sossamon) a beautiful woman way above his station.
