One year on from the Picture House Project...
We'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has made this year so wonderful.
The Picture House Project has been hugely transformative and we can't thank the team that worked on it enough. So thank you to our project team, Page\Park, Buro Happold, Gardiner and Theobald and Avison Young. And a huge thank you to our funders, the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Leeds City Council and the thousands of you who helped raise money and make the project a reality.
We're so pleased that the impact of the project has recently been acknowledged as HPPH won the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors regional award for Community Benefit and we won a gold award in the Retrofit category at the Scottish Design Awards.
Hopefully you have felt some of the benefits of the project first-hand through visits to the cinema, but if you haven't been yet, we'd love to welcome you! The brilliant photographer Jim Stephenson (clickclickjim.com) recently took some photos of the building which you can see on this page.
One of the most exciting benefits of the Picture House Project is that the cinema has now become a space where we can invite our audience in, not only to see a film, but to work, host community groups, have a drink and something to eat, or simply as a place to feel safe. It's now a space where we don't have to turn people away due to the size or access limitations of our heritage building. And it's a space which wears its heritage proudly, now preserved gloriously for future generations.
The main thing that makes this beautiful building special is the people inside it. So thank you to all our wonderful staff, volunteers and customers who have returned or discovered us and helped continue the magic of cinema in a climate where that can often feel like a challenge. Thank you for any support you have given, whether it's been choosing to visit us, donating, or sharing your thoughts online. It all means a great deal to us.
Thanks to all of this, since reopening...
