Whether your child is already a cinema superfan or visiting the big screen for the first time, our aim is to make every screening interactive, impactful and most importantly, super fun!
Our very good friends at Leeds Young Film Festival will be kicking things off over Easter weekend, with a brilliant mix of independent gems from around the world. It’s the perfect chance for mini film buffs to discover new films they can’t see anywhere else!
Additionally, we are amping up our usual family-friendly Hyde and Seek screenings, with the return of BoomChikkaBoom! Get ready to sing along to movie classics, Sing and Coco and experience the true magic (with a sprinkling of chaos) of enjoying film together!
For our tiniest film fans, our toddler screenings will include a bonus interactive activity to help make those first cinema experiences extra magical. This includes a screening of The Hungry Caterpillar (and other stories) to celebrate our new partnership with Cawston Press, who support our Hyde and Seek screenings, complete with storytelling, crafting, scavenging and plenty of joyful flapping!
And if that’s not quite enough, we’re taking over some well-known Picture House strands, usually reserved for our older clientele. Look out for a special (late-ish) late night, Creatures of the Night screening of Ghostbusters with a very ghoulish introduction from Yorkshire Ghost Tours to set the mood, and a one-off screening of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory for Philosophy & Film, which will delve into the curious confectionery-based questions raised by the fascinating classic adaptation.
We are also beyond excited to invite the legendary, multi-award-winning animation studio Aardman to the cinema for Hyde Park Film School, for a very special hands-on Morph making workshop for all ages to celebrate their 50th anniversary!
As always, we want to keep our screenings super accessible. Many of our screenings and associated activities are Pay What You Can, which means audiences can choose the amount to pay, according to how much they can afford. Additionally, we’ve teamed up again with our friends at Healthy Holidays to provide free tickets (and snacks) for young people in receipt of free school meals alongside parents and carers for the majority of our holiday screenings. Plus, we are also continuing our regular Autism-friendly screenings on Sundays over the holidays, designed for neurodiverse audiences who may find regular screenings overwhelming.
As a community cinema, our young audiences and their families are very important to us and we hope you can join us this April to experience cinema in a new way and celebrate your local, independent cinema!
There's also plenty of other exciting family-friendly activities happening as part of Explore across our sister venues at Leeds Heritage Theatres. You can explore the full programme here.
