Y tu mamá también
18

Part of Leeds Cinema Crawl 2024

Why watch?

We had tremendous fun with Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers when it came out at the start of this Summer but all the conversation about cinema as a space for sex, or sexiness, felt like it really demanded we make space for audience to revisit Y tu mamá también. With layers of gender and social politics at play alongside humour and heart, there really is so much to this film. It’s a reminder of why Cuarón is such an important voice in modern cinema. AND it’s sexy as hell!

Wendy,

Head of Cinema
This smash road trip from Oscar-winner Alfonso Cuarón (Children of Men, Gravity) is a pivotal title in contemporary Mexican cinema.

Drama • Sexy • Critically Acclaimed

Featuring Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna in what is arguably their breakout roles, Y tu mamá también follows a pair of horny teenagers from Mexico City from different classes who, after their girlfriends jet off to Italy for the summer, are bewitched by a gorgeous older Spanish woman (Maribel Verdú) they meet at a wedding.

When she agrees to accompany them on a trip to a faraway beach, the three form an increasingly intense and sensual alliance that ultimately strips them both physically and emotionally bare.

Popular local Mexican restaurant Lupe's Cantina Mexicana will provide authentic snacks for sale at Hyde Park Picture House to get you in the mood. The cinema will also have yummy tequila based cocktails!

This special screening is part of Leeds Cinema Crawl: Reel Journeys. A journey of truly cinematic proportions.

Archive, Cottage Road Cinema, Howard Assembly Room and Hyde Park Picture House come together to offer a unique opportunity for film lovers.

The Leeds Cinema Crawl is a day-long event featuring a screening at each venue. All the films feature a journey of some kind and will be shown consecutively, allowing cinemagoers to travel between each stop, make a detour or two and take part in a few extra activities along the way.

As with any good road trip, the four venues have brought some friends along for the ride – Leeds International Film Festival, Scalarama Leeds and Scour Cinema will all contribute to the crawl.
