Set during the early years of his real-estate business empire in 1970s and '80s New York, The Apprentice focusses on the relationship of Donald J. Trump and Roy Cohn, the infamous New York City prosecutor known for working with Senator Joseph McCarthy during the Second Red Scare. A compelling, and in a sense terrifying buddy movie, and part conventional biopic, Abassi is shrewd enough to show their subject as a human being rather than an overbearing narcissistic supervillain, with Sebastian Stan absolutely incredible in the title role.
