RoboCop

Wed 27 Aug · 18:00
An era-defining cult phenomenon, Paul Verhoeven’s blistering sci-fi satire on the politics of corruption returns to the big screen, in all its hyper-violent, bombastic glory.

Part of Philosophy & Film

In an effort to stamp out crime in a dystopic, gang-ridden Detroit in near-collapse, the forces in power reconstruct the body of a policeman, killed on duty, within a steel shell and call it RoboCop. Plagued by memories of his death, he hunts down the supervillain responsible.

Showing as part our Philosophy & Film strand, RoboCop has been selected by Dr. Alain Beauclair and will be followed by a short talk from Alain, exploring some of the philosophical themes raised.

Dr. Alain Beauclair is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at MacEwan University. His primary area of specialisation is ethics, with a focus on American philosophy and in particular the work of pragmatist John Dewey. Outside classes in ethics, Alain regularly teaches courses on the philosophy of film, American philosophy, the philosophy of sex and sexuality and bioethics.
