Why watch?
“Sitting in the shadow of all the great, silly and beautifully sincere buddy films that have come before, Nirvanna: The Band - the Show - the Movie is a joyful film who's simple existence makes me want to pull out my Bill and Ted DVDs, make a large popcorn and invite my best friend over to hide away from the seriousness of the world with me for a little bit.”
Wendy,
Head of Cinema
The film is based on the epic Canadian TV series Nirvanna The Band The Show, which follows a musical duo, played by its creators Matt Johnson (BlackBerry) and Jay McCarrol, whose desperate attempts to book a gig at The Rivoli in Toronto invariably result in hilarious misadventures.
Now in a critically acclaimed motion picture that harmonises with the series but stands alone, the ‘band’ is older, but none the wiser. When Matt presses Jay to partake in their most death-defying publicity stunt yet, it goes spectacularly wrong, and the fallout inspires Jay to strike out on his own. But thanks to Matt’s inadvertent intervention, the boys find themselves traveling through time where they risk compromising their very own origin story.
