Set in the fictional Pacific Northwest town of Twin Peaks, this hugely influential series follows the investigation led by FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper into the murder of local Homecoming Queen Laura Palmer. Our good friends and self-confessed Twin Peaks obsessives The Evolution of Horror have picked three classic episodes, one from each series, including, yes, Episode 8 from The Return.
--
Series One, Episode 3 (includes the Log Lady Intro)
This is the episode that Twin Peaks became famous for. Episode 3 features: A delicious brie baguette, a visit to One Eyed Jacks, Nadine’s silent drape runners, a game of rocks and bottles, the iconic Audrey’s Dance, the first appearance of Albert Rosenfield and Agent Cooper’s dream of the Red Room.
“Where we’re from, the birds sing a pretty song and there’s always music in the air.”
--
Series Two, Finale (includes the Log Lady Intro)
David Lynch & Mark Frost returned to see the show out with a bang. This episode features: A connection made between the Owl Cave petroglyph, the symbol of fire and the note written in blood at Laura Palmer’s murder scene, the Log Lady is accused of stealing Pete's truck, Windom Earle arrives at Glastonbury Grove with the kidnapped Annie, the Martell vs Parkard Mill storyline comes to an explosive conclusion and Cooper walks into the mysterious red-curtained room to meet his doppelganger.
"How's Annie?"

The Return, Part 8
Speaking of going out with a bang, this episode from 2017's The Return, 25 years after the original series finished, is one of the most creative hours of TV and will be mind-blowing to watch on the big screen. It's a perfect example of two creatives given the rare opportunity to make the TV show they want to make and we're not going to give you any hints to what you're about to see.
"Gotta light?"
The Evolution of Horror will be hosting a podcast Q&A recording discussing these episodes and Twin Peaks after the screening, with special guests Chris Newton and Bronte Schiltz.
--
Part of David Lynch: Between Two Worlds – a major new season celebrating the life and work of this visionary artist.
--
There will be a short interval between the Series Two episode and The Return.
Please note: free membership tickets do not apply for this event.
The Evolution of Horror is a weekly podcast hosted by Mike Muncer, that explores the history of the horror genre by delving into particular sub-genres across several weeks. Each episode, Mike is joined by a critic, filmmaker or expert, to discuss a particular film in depth, look at its place within a sub-genre, and explore its cultural impact and lasting legacy.
The Detective and the Log Lady is a new Twin Peaks rewatch podcast, in which hosts Mike Muncer (a Twin Peaks superfan) and Stacie Ponder (a Twin Peaks newbie) watch through and discuss the whole of David Lynch and Mark Frost's cult show from beginning to end.
