Moulin Rouge!
12A

Presented by Guilt-Free Pleasures
Mon 29 Dec · 19:00

Why watch?

Firstly, I'm gobsmacked this film is 24 years old (omg). If you've seen any of Baz Luhrmann's work you'll know to prepare for a campy and gaudy time and boy, does Moulin Rouge literally have it!!! It's over the top, tongue in cheek, ridiculous, hedonistic, sexy, silly and IMO ahead of it's time (2001). You've got an incredible cast who perform a spectacular (SPECTACULAR) medley of songs amongst a whirlwind of colours, sparkles, CGI hearts and fast paced storytelling - blink and you'll miss something truly wonderful.

Alice Duggan,

Venue Co-Ordinator & Guilt-Free Pleasures
For one night only Guilt-Free Pleasures are transporting the cinema to the streets of Paris and into the world-famous Moulin Rouge, with a little help from Christian and Satine.

Part of Too Much: Melodrama on Film

When an idealistic poet (Ewan McGregor) is drawn into the dark, fantastical underworld of the Parisian nightclub the “Moulin Rouge,” he finds a seedy, glamorous haven of sex, drugs and electricity. He also finds himself plunged into a passionate love affair with the club's star, who is also the city's most famous courtesan (Nicole Kidman) in this tragic love story from filmmaker Baz Luhrmann.

This event will also include a performance based on the themes of Moulin Rouge! from local queer drag artist Xero Phucse

Presented by Guilt-Free Pleasures and showing as part of our season Too Much: Melodrama on Film - supported by the BFI and Film Hub North.
