Mogwai: If the Stars Had a Sound
15
Over 25 years and 10 studio albums—using brute sonic force mixed with subtlety and grace—Mogwai have defined their own musical genre and built a loyal following by staying true to their sound and true to their roots. The film takes us on a journey from their very beginnings in the mid 1990s to the band writing and rehearsing their tenth studio album in their hometown of Glasgow, Scotland, in 2020 - a record created during lockdown. While this seemed impossible at first, they ultimately made history with it.
Our good friends at Jumbo Records will be hosting a merch and vinyl stall at this screening!

“A vivid account of a band that has transcended cult status to become a genuine national treasure.”
Dirty Movies
“It’s also a love letter to independent labels (Mogwai have released all their records since 2010 on their own Rock Action label), and retaining ownership over creativity. It also captures the excitement of a much-loved underground band finally getting their commercial dues after 25 years.”
Kid Vinyl
“An inspiring piece that urges viewers to pay more attention to the kind of hidden gems they might find in their local area. It’s not just a love letter to the fans and the band’s long-enduring success, it’s a love letter to every underground artist out there and a reminder of the big waves they can make in even the smallest of spaces.”
