Listening to D’Angelo, Hearing Voodoo – Part 3
18
Artist, DJ, composer and writer Edward George (The Strangeness of Dub, The Strangeness of Jazz, Black Audio Film Collective) will conclude his live journey into the mesmerising and troubling world of the album Voodoo (2000), a process which now takes on great poignancy following the sad demise, at the age of 51, of Michael Eugene D’Angelo Archer.
Powered by a high fidelity sound system, the cinema will serve as a venue for close listening, as George unfolds the myriad meanings and messages locked within D’Angelo’s music. Playing tracks from the album alongside music that flows in and out of its orbit, he will trace the broader sonic landscape conjured by Voodoo.
Part one of the series was launched at Hyde Park Picture House in 2023, with part two hosted by Fierce Festival in 2024.
Please note, this event will begin promptly at 6pm, so please allow yourself plenty of time to arrive.
