Hyde Park Pick: Leviticus
In an Australian religious community Naim falls furtively in love with local boy Ryan, but when he sees Ryan being intimate with the pastor’s son Hunter, jealousy turns into an act of betrayal. To free him from his sin, their church conducts a conversion therapy ritual and soon, Ryan and Hunter are pursued by malevolent doppelgängers of their hearts’ desire, while Naim grows closer to becoming the ritual’s next target.
An assured Australian coming-of-age horror film written and directed by Adrian Chiarella in his feature directorial debut, Leviticus is similar in tone to It Follows (2014), but becomes surprisingly romantic alongside its clever, but dreadful premise.
