Cave of Forgotten Dreams
U

To mark the filmmaker’s birthday, we wanted to revisit Werner Herzog’s acclaimed film, documenting the world’s oldest surviving paintings in France’s Chauvet Cave.
Documentary • Historical

In 1994, a group of scientists discovered a cave in France perfectly preserved for over 20,000 years and containing the earliest known human paintings. The French government cut off all access to it, apart from a few archaeologists, palaeontologists and eventually, the wonderful Werner Herzog who has made it the subject of his 3D documentary - the first of its kind.
