Teddy, an apiarist and dark web surfer is convinced that the colony collapse disorder that devastated the honeybee population is about to be visited upon humanity, a belief that aliens from the neighbouring Andromeda galaxy are preparing to destroy Earth.

He plans to kidnap CEO Michelle, as they believe she is part of the alien threat. However, the situation quickly spirals out of control as the kidnapped Michelle fiercely denies their accusations and a detective starts sniffing around for any clues about her sudden disappearance.

A remake of the Korean film Save the Green Planet! (2003), Bugonia very much preserves Yorgos Lanthimos’s predilection for his own singular vision and absurdist dark comedy.
